EPISODE 2: SHORTLY AFTERWARDS

My legs shook as I walked into the market square, looking for my daily bread. I could hardly believe what I just passed through the previous night. Do you mean I just lost my dignity all in the guise of “Play”? What do we call that kind of Play? I barely even knew the meaning of SEX at my tender age.

As I continued in thoughts, an Almajiri brushed past me and took my bowl of money. Before I could scream the first-word “Thief”, I found myself flat on the ground with a pool of blood all around me. My blood, my dignity, my money, all GONE!!! Life, and its surprises! All I could remember next was myself on the hospital bed, battling for my life. Thank God for the good Samaritan that rushed me to the hospital. At the spur of the moment, I was knocked down by a bus driver. Off he went, not caring if I would survive the accident or join my ancestors. Danfo drivers and their menace! Only God can judge their atrocities.

I lay unconscious for two weeks on that bed, room 14 of the Intensive Care Unit, Lagos State General Hospital, Ikeja. Twice every day, He will come and check on me – My good Samaritan.“Is she responding to treatment Doctor? Why hasn’t she woken up? Will you refer her to a specialist? Please, do all you can to save Her Doctor!”, were the words of Mr Uchenna to Doctor Ademola. He would not give up on me. He handled the bills, did everything. Finally, someone chose to care about me, enough to foot my bills. Hallelujah, my saviour found me!

Two weeks in comma, and I sneezed back to consciousness. “Doctor, Doctor, she is awake!”, and the rest is history. The Doctor rushed in, “Give me the Stethoscope. Okay, Breathing is normal. Nurse Titi, check Her blood pressure”. “Doctor, it’s a 120/80 mmHg”, She responded. That’s normal! Wow, She’s Back! Darling, can you hear me? What is your name? It’s okay, rest some more. I’ll be back to examine you. I slept, only to wake up with the memories of nightmares. Nightmares of sexual assault. What meanest thou these things? Must I re-live my past again?
